Proverbs 8-17

Almost caught up.....

Proverbs 9:8-9
Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you;
rebuke a wise man and he will love you.
Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still;
teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.

Very interesting!!!

Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, sin is not absent,
but he who holds his tongue is wise.

Hmmmm.....a lesson for this "talker".

Proverbs 11:11
Through the blessings of the upright a city is exalted,
but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.

Pastor Jodi put this verse on bracelets for our congregation.  The New Living Translation puts it this way:
Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper, but the talk of the wicked tears it apart
He did a sermon about how our individual ways can tear down a city.  Each of us make a difference.  It was powerful!

Proverbs 12:16
A fool shows his annoyance at one,
but a prudent man overlooks an insult.

Reckless words pierce like a sword,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

An anxious heart weighs a man down,
but a kind world cheers him up.

The wise woman builds her house,
but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

All a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the Lord.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do,

Proverbs 16:7,9
When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord,
he makes even his enemies live at peace with him. 

In his heart a man plans his course,
but the Lord determines his steps.

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 16:31-32
Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained by the righteous life. 
Better a patient man than a warrior,
a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.

Proverbs 17:6
Children's children are a crown to the aged,
and parents are the pride of their children.

Proverbs 17:14
Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.
