Mar. 25 - 1 Samuel 15-16

Saul, Saul, Saul.......
He didn't listen....well he listened, and then followed the directions that we wanted to follow.  (Sounds like what we do all of the time!)  The Lord was not pleased that Samuel did not totally destroy the Amalekites.  Saul found a few things that he felt like sparing although that was against the instruction of the Lord.  After the battle he also felt like rewarding himself for a job well done.  1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.

Saul admitted his sin and asked for forgiveness.  Samuel told him that the damage is done and the Lord regretted making him King.

Saul mourned the rejection of Samuel, but the Lord told him to move on.  The Lord has picked a new king and Samuel was to go anoint him.  Along the way there were many very fine looking individuals that Samuel thought were possibilities but the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his heigh, for i have rejected him.  The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

When Samuel met a young boy tending to the family flock of sheep he was told that he would be the new king.  David was anointed by David and the Spirit of the Lord came upon him.

Saul was no longer in God's good graces and he was tormented by an evil spirit.  God's protective hand was removed which allowed Satin in.  Saul found out about a boy named David, who the Lord was with, and he wanted to meet him.  Saul liked David and he brought him onto his service.  When the evil spirit was amongst Saul, David would play the harp and Saul would feel relief.

I'm very excited to continue my reading about David.  I think we have some really interesting days ahead of us!
