The first chapter reviews the travel of the Israelites. It took 40 years to get from Egypt to Canaan. When they were about to enter Canaan God instructs the Israelites what to do. They must defeat the Canaanites and claim the land for themselves. The Canaanites were worshiping demon like idols and they would not be able to peacefully live with the Israelites.
The Israelites were given their land boundaries. They were also told to create cities of refuge for those that are awaiting trial for murder. In Ch. 35 it is instructions for a court on who is to be immediately guilty and who must face trial.
In Ch. 36 it readdresses the land ownership of a family we discussed earlier. Zelophehad's daughters approached Moses earlier to ask to have land given to them in their father's honor. They had no brothers, so there was no land immediately given to them. The Lord agreed with the daughters and gave their namesake land. It was then addressed that if those daughters were to marry men from other tribes those men would inherit the women's land. This means that all relatives living on that land will lose it. It was said at that time that a women in that case must marry someone in her father's tribal clan so the land will stay in the family. This means they must marry a relative.....which is against what he stated in Leviticus 18.
We finished Numbers!! Yeah! I guess what makes me sad moving on it that I know Moses will die. We have been told already that Moses does not enter the Promise Land. He has been an amazing leader! -nic
