It is time to use the meeting place that has been so careful and amazingly built. Aaron and his sons are ready, all dressed in their holy clothes, to be anointed into the priesthood. They did all of the necessary sacrifices. Moses was SO CAREFUL to follow the Lord directions to the tee. All went well....Aaron came before the Lord and then came out and blessed the people. Fire came out of the presence of the Lord and the people shouted with joy. Then it was Nadab and Abihu's turn. But they did not do a good job following directions. Maybe a little intoxicated, maybe just wanting to do it their own way.....they approached with their own fire. It was what my bible called unauthorized fire. Bad idea. Fire consumed them and they died. Poor Aaron....He was then commanded not to mourn. Can you imagine?
What can I get out of this? As modern sinners we believe that we can come to God whatever way we want. Is that pleasing to Him, or is that what makes us feel better? -nic
