April Fool's Day: 2 Samuel 4-7

There was a lot of stuff going on today.  I hope I can get this blog done before the girls get home from school.

Okay so today we start off with the murder of Saul's son, Ish-Bosheth.  He had actually backed off from revenge on David b/c was starting to get scared.  One day he was in his own home taking a little mid-day nap.  Two guys came into his home, stabbed and killed him.  Then they proceeded to cut off his head.  Proudly they presented it to David.  He was NOT a happy camper.  He scolded them for killing an innocent man in his own bed.  He ordered the two men to be killed.

At the age of 30 David became King of Israel.  This was the start of his 40 year rule.
Following his anointment as King, David conquered Jerusalem.  Jerusalem became David's new capital city.  After this, he took more concubines and wives and had more children.  This was in direct disobedience to Deuteronomy 17:17: Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away.


With the Lord assistance David defeats the Philistines.  


In Ch. 6 The Ark was brought to Jerusalem.  This Ark was built by Moses 400 years before David's time.  Remember all those measurements and details.  Isn't it amazing that it still exists.  Not really.....the arc of God represents the immediate blessing of God.  So it really isn't surprising that it was lasted all of the years.  


As the arc was approaching the house of David, David broke into a praise dance.  He was leaping and dancing around.  His wife Michal witnessed his behavior and was disgusted.  When he entered the house she told him that she was disgusted with him.  He did not apologize for his behavior.  David praised the Lord as he saw fit.  He acted out the true meaning of praise and worship.  


God then made some promises to David.  He promised to give him rest from his enemies.  He also promised never to take His love away.  (Like he did with Saul.)  


David prayed back to the Lord.  One sentence in the prayer stuck with me.  (28)  O Sovereign Lord, you are God!  Your words are trustworthy.
