Because we are behind I am going to try to play some a quick game of catch up. Today's reading was really good! The Lord came to Solomon and said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." Now, that is a dangerous thing to say. God must have had faith in Solomon to put out such a bold statement. Solomon answered, (3:9) "Give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong." Wow.....he didn't ask for riches, fame, or to be adored by his people. He asked for knowledge and wisdom that is blessed by the Lord. (I like this guy!) The Lord was pleased.
Solomon shows his wisdom to his people when he is brought in to judge a situation. Two women lived together and they both had newborn babies. One fell asleep on her baby and killed it. When that women discovered what she had done she switched babies with her roommate and claimed the baby that was alive was hers. The roommate realized that the dead baby next to her was not her baby. The women fought. Solomon was brought in to solve the problem. Since there was no DNA test to prove which baby belonged to which women, Solomon used his God given gift of Wisdom. He told the women that the baby would be cut in half and each women would get a half of a baby. The babies TRUE mother was immediately concerned for her child and told Solomon to give the baby to the other lady. The other lady who just wanted the baby out of jealousy agreed with Solomon. If she couldn't have the baby alive she didn't want either of them to have the whole baby. From their reactions Solomon gave the baby to his TRUE mother. All of Israel was in awe by King Solomon's wisdom.
The news spread around. (4:34) Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon's wisdom
