April 2 - 2 Samuel 8-11

While David was king, he defeated the Philistines and the Moabites along with many other groups that worshiped false gods. The Lord gave David and his people the strength to be victorious no matter where they went. 
David wanted to know if there were any decendants of Saul that he could show God's kindness to in honor of Jonathan.  There was one person he was led to, and that was Jonathan's son.  He was crippled in both feet and when David paid him a visit, he was unsure as to why he would be so kind.  David gave him all of the land that had belonged to Saul and blessed him.  David also went on to show kindness to the Ammonites.  Their king had died and he sent some of his people there to offer his condolences.  The Ammonites thought David was sending these people to spy and they humiliated them.  David then sent the army to defeat the Ammonites. 
David then meets Bathsheba.  He spots her bathing and thinks she is beautiful.  He inquired about her and sent for her to come to him.  She did and he ended up sleeping with her, even though she was married to Uriah the Hittite.  She becomes pregnant with David's child and David forms a master plan to have her husband killed while fighting in a war.  It worked and Uriah the Hittite was killed.  When Bathsheba learned of this, she mourned his death.  David then took her into his house and made her another one of his wives.  They had a son together.  All of David's plans didn't make the Lord happy at all.
